OpenAI (creator of ChatGPT) has announced tools to detect content created by AI, rocking the professional writing, resume writing, academic, PR and other industries. Similarly, Grammarly has launched free detection of AI writing as well as plagiarism.
Issues with AI written Resumes:
Humans – Ultimately, your resume needs to be understood by a human and stay in the mind of the recruiter and hiring manger. Only DoMyResume uses real recruiters and HR professionals that have sifted through bad resume, AI resumes, and real professional resumes.
Generic Verbiage – It is impossible to standout, as AI optimizes for the same phrases no matter the prompt. This means you may be missing the right key words to get picked up, but also will have a resume that doesn’t reflect you or your individual skillset and story.
Lack of Tailoring or Expertise – AI can be helpful for an initial generic draft and fluff language but tailoring your resume to your specific dream career is much more complicated. A job description may be overly tailored to a specific company, so optimizing without expertise will artificially narrow your job prospects.
Honesty – The process of going through a professional and onboarding interview draws out the details that enrich your resume and help you build stories to work from in the interview itself. Having AI fluff or create (or even accidentally hallucinate) the job details and experiences will only put you in harms way in the future.
AI Disruption – AI is ultimately a productivity tool for all, not a replacement. Like any other tool it requires a master craftsman to use appropriately. We have found it to be incredibly harmful for customers who have opted to use it to write their resume. HOWEVER, we have found it to be useful for both us and customers to pull together real data analysis on the job market, job descriptions and other trends.
